Travel Itineraries
These itineraries are meant to inspire your next trip and encourage you to stop in cities that may not have otherwise been on your list. All three itineraries either start or end in Zagreb, Dubrovnik, or Sarajevo, which offer the most flights to other European cities and are fitting beginning and end points based on their locations.
Croatian Crescent - 8 to 10 days
This itinerary starts in the Croatian capital of Zagreb, takes you down along the Adriatic coastline to Dubrovnik, and then into Bosnia.
Day 1: Zagreb.
Day 2: Plitviče Lakes National Park
Day 3: Zadar
Day 4 - 5: Dubrovnik
Day 6: Mostar
Day 7-10: Sarajevo. From here, take day trips to Višegrad and Srebrenica in eastern Bosnia.
Bosnian Crescent - 10-12 days
This itinerary focuses on Bosnia while still capturing inland and coastal Croatia. It also allows for several options depending on the number of days you have available and your openness to driving.
Day 1: Zagreb
Days 2-3: Go south to Plitviče Lakes National Park and spend the day and night there or head south to Bosnia passing through Hrvatska Dubica, Prijedor, and ending the day in Banja Luka. If you take the Plitviče route, spend night 3 in Banja Luka.
Days 4-5: From here choose one of two options: head directly to Sarajevo through Central Bosnia or continue to eastern Bosnia with your first stop at Srebrenica for about 2-3 hours and then spending the night in Višegrad.
Day 6-8: If you took the eastern Bosnian route, spend the morning in Višegrad and then continue to Sarajevo either through Goražde or Foča. Consider river rafting on the Drina or other adventure activities in this area. It is recommended to spend 2 days in Sarajevo.
Days 9-10: Mostar
Days 11-12: Dubrovnik
Sarajevo Day Tripper 3 to 5 days
With this itinerary, Sarajevo is your home base. You can do one or all of the day trips based on the number of days of your trip. All three day trips roughly 2.5 to 3 hours of driving each way. If you do not want to rent a car, a train runs between Sarajevo and Mostar.
